Teen Battling Serious Illness Opens Cookie Biz Thanks To Make-A-Wish

Lombard, Illinois, 16-year-old Neysa Bianco recently opened her own cookie business, Cookies and Crumbs, with the support of Make-A-Wish Illinois. She’s had a long-held dream of owning her own bakery, despite battling a serious genetic illness. This past weekend, her bakery officially opened and hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate and support her new venture.

Neysa’s journey to opening Cookies and Crumbs has not been easy. She was born with a genetic disorder that caused frequent health challenges, including seizures that worsened a few years ago. But the teen has been seizure-free for three months now and says that her baking dreams have helped her stay positive through these difficult times.

With assistance from Make-A-Wish Illinois, Neysa spent over a year developing her business plan. Now, she’s happily baking and selling cookies using a family recipe. Jessica Miller from Make-A-Wish Illinois says it’s been very meaningful to help fulfill Neysa’s wish in a way that involved the community. Hers is just one of more than 700 granted by Make-A-Wish Illinois this year.
