Kids Leave Candy On Halloween After Seeing Sign About Son In Hospital

On Halloween night, a group of neighborhood kids in Woodhaven, Michigan, left candy on the doorstep of a family whose son was in the hospital. Amy Schmitt and her son Jacob love dressing up and handing out candy on Halloween, but when he had to be hospitalized, the mom left a note telling the neighborhood kids, who’d come to expect the Schmitts to take part in the holiday. Then on Halloween evening, she started receiving notifications from her doorbell camera showing kids leaving candy at their house.

Amy says she was deeply moved by the community’s kindness, describing it as "overwhelming" and noting that she didn’t even know many of the people who stopped by. One of the children who chose to donate her treats, six-year-old Mia, went out for a second round of trick-or-treating just to leave all her candy at Jacob’s house. Mia’s dad, James Sayen, says the decision was entirely Mia’s own and expressed pride in her generosity.

Amy praised the parents of the neighborhood kids for raising such thoughtful children, calling their actions "remarkable." She shared her gratitude for the community’s gesture, saying it was incredibly heartwarming. The kindness shown by her neighbors brought joy to her and Jacob during a challenging time.
