'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' star and creator Rob McElhenney expressed interest in purchasing a stake in the Philadelphia Eagles.

McElhenney, 47, a Philadelphia native who, along with fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, became the co-owner of the Welsh football club Wrexham A.F.C. in September 2020, shared a post on his X account acknowledging Bloomberg's report that Eagles majority owner Jeff Lurie was exploring a sale of a stake in the NFL franchise.

"Uh… Mr Lurie…. Check your dms pls," McElhennery wrote.

Lurie, 72, is reportedly working with BDT & MSD Partners to explore potential interest from suitors in the franchise, which is estimated to be valued at more than $7.5 billion at full sale, a figure based on roughly 11 times revenue, according to Bloomberg. The size of the minority stake reportedly being considered for sale hasn't been determined and talks are in an early stage, however, potential partners were told that there is no path to a controlling stake.

McElhenney and Reynolds' purchase and stewardship of Wrexham A.F.C. was chronicled in the FX series Welcome to Wrexham. The Welsh club has been promoted twice since the actors' take over, first securing promotion to the Football league after a 15-year absence in 2023 and most recently to the English Football League One in April, now two promotions away from the English Premier League.

Last year, McElhenney unknowingly got into a bidding war with his wife and 'Always Sunny' co-star, Kaitlin Olson, over a Philadelphia Eagles jacket auctioned off by Kylie Kelce, the wife of Eagles center Jason Kelce, recently. McElhenney, a lifelong Eagles fan, and Olson appeared on the 'New Heights' podcast hosted by the All-Pro center and his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, to discuss their back-and-fourth expensive bids for Kylie's throwback letterman jacket, with the proceeds going to the Eagles Autism Foundation.

The letterman jacket, which was signed by Kylie Kelce, was a replica of one famously worn by the late Princess Diana in the 1990s.
